Whoops It wasn't exactly *Yuffie* he was catching, hee hee. :-) Incidentally, the "clack clack" in the third panel is Vincent's metal arm getting crushed. I'm not sure if that came across too well - I did draw him holding his arm, but with all the light and transform effects, that might have gotten lost. That, and the fact that there's still open debate on whether Vincent is really missing his left arm or if that's just a gauntlet. (He is missing his arm in this comic!)

Q&A Hey, thanks for all the nice comments! DoC Chaos is making an appearance because you guys voted him in. ;)

I'd have loved to make a big long transformation sequence, but that usually only works well in animation. In web comics, it leads to battles that are ~14 pages long with very little dialogue, and after about the 3rd page, very bored readers. You can get away with fantastic transformations in print comics though. ;-)

Movers are little yellow balls found in groups of 3 in the Northern Crater. They have a 'Delta' attack that confuses and damages the party, and drop AP (materia points) like mad crazy. They're hard to find though.

Eep. So was that a good thing or not (about Chaos coming out)...?

and boo for Vincent not catching Yuffie. D: *le sigh* But I suppose all in due time...

Reply Devi (Guest), 27th Sep 2007

Whatta sweet surprise!! I expected the "catching the Mover in his hand" even before Midaki posted that guess on the previous page, but I didn't expect to see beautiful, beautiful Chaos.

Lovely light effects.

:swoons: That is one hawt, dramatic, wonderful page.

I can't wait to hear Yuffie's explanation on how Chaos coming out is a good thing (beautifully done, BTW). I mean, sure, he'll flatten those movers in no time flat (examining the squished one in his claw), but then, what's to keep him from turning onto them, as I'm sure Nanaki has guessed at.

Chaos He looks wickedly cool!

Reply TheSeptemberPhantom, 27th Sep 2007

Your comic is absolutely beautiful, I couldn't stop reading it from the start til now.... (And now I'm sad cuz there's no more)

I absolutely love your work! <3

Reply andygoth, 27th Sep 2007

Aww, I was hoping for a bit more detail in the transformation, but on second thought it's better not to spend three or four pages on it! :^) Maybe it could be a series of incentive images. I dunno.

Meeep! ^-^ Oh my goodness... Chaos is awesomesauce... that's all I have to say about it. I'm glad you went with him instead of Galian for the transformation, it looks GREAT.

Whoohoo, Chaos! I'm actually not that enthusiastic about the DoC version of it... I thought something like True Ogre would be more appropriate.

And thanks for the A/N at the side explaining what clack-clack was. I was very confused for a while.

Wahey!! Chaos!! >_<
This page is really cool!!
And i thought that Chaos in DoC was beautiful! lol

Reply Onikage, 28th Sep 2007

Ohhhh hell.... So Vinnie let Chaos out of the bag, huh?
An' Yuffie's GLAD? Oh, she's a strange one, that's for sure.
Little question, what are 'Movers'? Were they in VII? If so, where?

Reply Sniper at work (Guest), 28th Sep 2007

'Movers' Movers are in the northen crater where in the crater i ferget but good for Exp

Reply Devi (Guest), 28th Sep 2007

RE: Movers They're in the swamp-like area of the Northern Crater. They don't give XP, but they do give plenty of AP.

Reply Rose (Guest), 28th Sep 2007

Overkill... It seems a bit over the top to turn into Chaos just to deal with a bit of ill-tempered sports equipment...

On the subject of Chaos, what in the many gods' names was the deal with Dirge of Cerberus? I could forgive them neglecting the Death Gigas and the Hellmasker, for their half-arsery when it came to the Galian Beast, the general juggling around of little details like the Death Sentence becoming Chaos' gun and the Cerberus replacing it in Vincent's hands and things like that, but the whole deal with Chaos was rediculous. Don't get me wrong, the plot was alright and I'm all for the dramatic "hero's curse" cliché but it completely ignored the fact that in the first game Chaos wasn't a big deal - just another attack that the other characters didn't seem to bat an eyelid at. All of a sudden, in Dirge of Cerberus, everyone's suddenly all up in arms about Chaos. Even Vincent is considerably more concerned about it. Understandably, Chaos had a new role to Vincent and the planet, but it is, in my opinion, worth nothing more than a "So that's what it's there for..." and then getting down to the job at hand. Omega Weapon was a bit of a pushover so I'm fairly certain that it can't have been that difficult...

I don't think it's overkill Since this story was done not really taking AC and DOC into account, then I don't see Chaos as over kill at all. With the Ultima blasts and other assorted injuries in the crater so far, I don't think it's too much to think that Vincent's limit bar was full and Chaos got let out... you have to remember in the game if he's attained his last limit, unless you chance the skill set, he's going to transform into Chaos no matter what. I personally enjoyed DOC however, because it gave more story as to why he changed like he did and other's didn't...

I think it's a beautiful page, and really DOC Chaos is super hawt... a lot better then a purple-y monster guy... I have to say I totally disagree with your reasoning Valentine.

Reply Enkida, 28th Sep 2007

The movers aren't want got Vincent limit-ready (though having one of them crush his metal prosthesis probably helped a bit). If you really want to know, Yuffie was the one who brought Vincent to his limit way back on page 290. ;-)

Reply Naleh (Guest), 28th Sep 2007

Oooh Yay it's Chaos! Who is here to save the day...for the time being... >.>
Chaos is hot ^_^

Reply tionnedawnstar, 29th Sep 2007

Emotional Limit! Ah, then for future reference Yuffie should not piss him off, even though we get to see the hawtness of Chaos, it can't be healthy for the wild life of the crater LOL

Reply Jim (Guest), 29th Sep 2007

About that overkill... I think saying Chaos is overkills is a bit on the wrong side of things. Like most people here I played FF7. A LOT. And damn me...I was using each Character s limit break at least once every sixt batte.

In terms of the comic I guess Vincent just got Emo to the limit end beyond, losing control of his inner beast. Hence limit break. Its a bit different from the rest of the party thou...problably depends on the way they think i recon?

Reply Devi (Guest), 30th Sep 2007

RE: Overkill... Regarding DoC making Chaos this "big deal" thing even Vincent feared... well, of course it's retcon to a degree, but you could see even in the original game that Vincent wasn't fully at ease with Chaos - "I'm becoming less human," anyone? So it's not a stretch, in my mind, to have him *not* see Chaos as just another powerup to throw at whatever threat there is. Besides, they needed something to explain why Vincent would restrict himself to using the less powerful Galian Beast for most of the game when he could've used Chaos. (They still didn't have an explanation for the absence of sadly missed Death Gigas and Hellmasker, though... *grumble, grumble*)

As for what's happening here... well, as Enkida said, he was already going Chaos-y just a moment ago because of his emotions and just-so restrained himself, so now that he's in a situation where Chaos will come in handy, he just lets slip the reins, as it were. It's not "overkill" as much as making use of what's already there, yeah?

*muses* I tend to look at limit breaks the way that FFIX describes them. You are able to use them once you've worked yourself into a lather, so to speak, like that surge of energy, adrenalin or anger that lets you throw that surprisingly strong punch. Normally, you'd get worked up after being wailed on by five or six rounds of enemies, but you can achieve them in times of extreme stress/emotion. That's semi-standard in FF games, right?

Vincent could have earned his limit break in either way... ignoring DoC's versions. xp Poo on DoC. *kicks sand at* As much as Vincent almost singlehandedly provided the game's entire melodrama quota himself in a handful of lines, DoC went way overboard. The plot as overdone and the design was so overdetailed it had no appeal. heh. ^_^' Enough ranting about that. I've digressed. sorry.

What, Chaos wasn't a big deal in the original game? I know I sure used it as if it was! I held off using it as long as I could, because it wasn't the most EFFICIENT way to win a battle, but Chaos was nigh invincible in normal battles. Release him, and he'd eventually kill everything of in his own, languid, brutal, flashy time. I can remember being rather unnerved that he didn't turn on us, though. ~_~'
